Week 10 - Calling
Welcome in our Chapel just a few days after Christmas.
I prepare myself and become aware of my breathing.
I try to quieten my mind and become still.
In this inner stillness I may draw myself close to God.
He is waiting for me. He is happy that I am here and He looks at me with love.
Theme:
Jesus is also calling me to actively give form to His Kingdom here on Earth.
What I might wish to ask for:
That I may find what I am searching for: the person who gives meaning to my life. That I may respond to His invitation. That I have the courage to go along with whatever plans He has for me.
Music: Here I am, Lord (Luther College Cathedral Choir)
I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I have made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Chorus:
Here I am, Lord
Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go, Lord
If you lead me
I will hold your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people's pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
Whom shall I send?
I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will send the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide,
'Til their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?

Genesis 12, 1-4
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
God has a radical assignment for Abram: Leave your familiar surroundings and go to a country which God will show you. The ultimate goal is unknown. What does that evoke in me?
*
And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
God promises Abram among other things that he will bring blessings. He will not only be blessed himself but will be a blessing for others as well.
God is also saying that to me. Can I truly believe that? Am I a blessing for the people around me?
*
I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses you I will curse; and by you all the families of the earth shall bless themselves.” So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
Abram obeys without hesitation, even in his old age. He trusts God, even without knowing where he has to go.
If I imagine myself in Abram’s shoes: which way would I want to take, which way would I dare to take?
What am I called to do? What would I like to become for the people around me?
