Weekly Meditations 2023-2024
Week 33 - A Contemplation to Attain Love
The theme of this meditation is:
A CONTEMPLATION TO ATTAIN LOVE
The final note is reserved for love.
Love is where it all began and love is what brings everything to completion.
The love which is in ourselves and the love for others.
We are being called by Him to love one another.
After celebrating Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit will help us.
What I might wish to ask:
That I am able to see that living a life of love really is possible.
That it is precisely this which gives meaning to my life and to the lives of all people.
Week 32 - The Spirit sends
Theme:
After the resurrection and the ascension of Jesus He promises to give us His Spirit and connect us to Him: from Him, through Him and for Him.
What I may wish to ask:
That I may have the courage to live my life based on trust and faith in God’s Spirit and that I am able to feel that the Spirit also sends me.
Week 31 - Arise!
heme: Arise!
I feel the strong thrust of divine life within me.
Divine life in the form of love which sets me in motion.
What I may wish to ask:
That I can start to live with the awareness
that everything revolves around the love which God gives me.
Week 30 - Face to Face
Theme:
Unexpectedly the risen Christ shows himself. One after another his friends feel how close He is. They are comforted and are able to see how new life unfolds.
What I may wish to ask:
That I am able to recognize Jesus as my Lord and see how He can give me new life.
Week 29 - A new reality is presented
Theme:
The strong inner movements experienced by the first witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection call us to believe in the new reality of the resurrection: Jesus is still present.
What I may wish to ask:
That I can let this new, unexpected life come to me. That I can feel connected with these first witnesses.
Week 28 - The new creation
Theme:
The theme today is the New Creation. The full scale of what has happened to Jesus, who passed through death, becomes slowly more visible as one experience builds on another. He is risen!
Week 27 - A new reality
Theme: A new reality is coming to light. The powerful experiences of the first people to witness the resurrection call us to believe in the new reality of the resurrection: Jesus is still always present with us.
What I may wish to ask for: That I can allow this new, unexpected life to become a part of me and that I can feel the connection with the first witnesses.
Week 26 - Holy Saturday
Theme: It is Holy Saturday. It is still and quiet. Very still. The silence is deafening. What on earth are we to do now?
What I may wish to ask: That what Jesus has lived, may remain in me. That I abide in his love.
Week 25 - The hour of truth
Theme:
Jesus is tested to the limit, but He remains faithful. I am also sometimes tested by external forces and also by forces within myself.
What I may wish to ask:
That I can continue to follow Jesus on the way He has chosen. That I can persevere in my desire to follow Him, whatever that might involve.
Week 24 - The last supper
What I may wish to ask:
That I can feel that I belong to the community of Jesus’ disciples. That I become aware of how great Jesus’ love is and that I am able to receive that love.
Week 23 - The True Reality of the Messiah
Theme: The true reality of the Messiah.
Jesus’ life is far from obvious: His reality is to stand up for a Kingdom, which is not of this world. But it takes shape in this world.
What I may wish to ask:
That I may be able to discover the human measure of what is being asked of me. What connects me in this to Jesus?
Week 22 - With Jesus
Theme: Last week the theme was “Choosing with Jesus in mind”. In the Gospel reading God’s voice was heard saying: ‘This is my beloved son. Listen to Him!’ This week I allow myself to linger by Jesus and spend a moment with Him. I listen to Him.
What I may wish to ask: Maybe I would like to pray that I can feel connected to Jesus. That He can influence the choices I make in life.
Week 21 - Choosing with Jesus in mind
Theme: What is essential for my life as a Christian? Which choices do I make for the rest of my life, after such close encounters with Jesus during the last few weeks?
What I may wish to ask: That I am able to answer Jesus’ invitation and can make choices for my life which are in tune with what I have seen in Jesus.
Week 20 - Face to face with Jesus
Theme: In the confrontations with people on His way, Jesus’ identity becomes ever clearer. I try to see my own position in this more clearly and to remain with Jesus.
What I may wish to ask: That I can remain faithful to Jesus in the middle of confrontations.
Week 19 - Jesus gives life
Theme:
Jesus gives us food for the journey. In this way he makes it possible for us to live in accordance with His spirit.
What I may wish to ask:
That Jesus can satisfy my hunger and that I can learn to joyfully receive good things from Him.
Week 18 - Jesus proclaims His message
Theme:
I sense the authority with which Jesus speaks,
and how He so clearly shows us His way.
What I may desire:
That I can listen to Jesus. That I am able to experience that He touches my heart and supports me in all my inabilities.
Week 17 - Jesus heals
Theme:
Jesus is able to heal the soul as well as the body.
He gives us inner freedom.
What I may wish to ask:
That I may see how much I depend on Jesus.
That I am able to follow Him in the liberating way in which He acts.
Week 16 -Jesus calls
Theme:
I am being personally addressed.
What will I do?
What I might wish to ask:
That I may have a better understanding
of what Jesus does with people, including myself.
That I won’t be afraid
to make myself available to Him.
Week 15 - Jesus chooses His Way
Theme:
Jesus chooses to do what He feels called to do. He will face temptation, but He knows what He has to do.
What I may wish to ask:
That I can choose together with Jesus, that I can make the same choices He made. That I can live my life like He lived His life.
Week 14 - Pure Awareness
Theme of this week
Having a pure, true awareness will give us greater insight when considering the inner movements – whether these are good or bad – which take place in our hearts and minds. During these meditations we develop the art of discerning these inner movements, to become more sensitive to them and to be able to test them with regard to how they fit with the Gospel.
What I may wish to ask:
That I may receive a clearer perception of what goes on within me and can learn to deal with that in a better way. That I can avoid going astray and taking the wrong track. That I can learn to choose what will help me more.
