Week 16 - Jesus Calls
Theme:
Jesus calls. I am being personally addressed by Him. What shall I do?
My desire for this time of prayer might be:
That I can come to a better understanding of what Jesus does with people, and, consequently, what he also does with me.
That I don’t shy away from making myself available to Him.
Welcome in this chapel.
First of all I try to free my thoughts in order to come closer to God, who wants to be with me because of His love for me.

Christ has no body now but yours
No hands, no feet on earth but yours
Yours are the eyes with which He sees
Yours are the feet with which He walks
Yours are the hands with which He blesses all the world
Yours are the hands

Matthew 9, 9-13: The Call of Matthew
9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him.
Jesus is on His way. I walk with Him. What do I see and hear on the way?
*
‘Follow me’, says Jesus to Matthew, but He also says it to me. He calls me personally. What shall I do? What are my objections? What is challenging me? Do I let myself be taken along easily?
*
10 And as he sat at dinner[a] in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting[b] with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
Why does Jesus choose to eat with these particular people? Do I feel like joining them? What would that demand of me? Or do I feel reluctant or uneasy? Do I recognize moments in my own daily life when I have to deal with ‘difficult’ people?
*
12 But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”
‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice’, says Jesus, also to me.
He calls me to follow Him.
How would I like to answer Jesus’ call to follow Him in the days to come? Do I have an example in mind? What do I find challenging?
